Pole barns and barndominiums in Church Hill, Maryland.
Building in Church Hill.
Church Hill is a small town on MD 213, with MD 300 and MD 19 also serving it and 808 residents at the 2020 Census. Its 2024 Comprehensive Plan notes that it is the only town in the Southeast Creek watershed, a 54-square-mile part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed. St. Luke’s Church, the Churchill Theatre-Community Building and the Salem School, listed in 2025, are among its National Register landmarks.
Church Hill is about 30 miles from our Dover office, roughly 44 minutes on the road. Our designers draw the building and we put together a clear quote, then we handle the Town paperwork, the site plan step included. A project manager stays in touch while the crew builds, and the final payment comes after the final inspection.

Permits and rules in Church Hill.
The Town of Church Hill Town Hall, 406 Main Street (410-758-3740), issues permits inside town limits. Anything that will be inspected needs both a Town building permit and a Town zoning certificate. The Town’s instruction sheet lists three items for a pole building: a Building Permit ($45), a Zoning Certificate ($35) and a Category 2 Site Plan, $360 outside the Critical Area or $480 inside it. That sheet dates from June 2023, so we confirm current fees. Forms are fillable PDFs emailed to townhall@churchhillmd.com.
The building permit form asks whether the lot is in the Critical Area and has approval lines for floodplain, sediment control, stormwater, entrances and the State Highway Administration, and parts of Church Hill do fall in the Critical Area and a FEMA flood zone. Plumbers and electricians must hold Queen Anne’s County licenses, and MDIA handles electrical inspections. Zoning questions go to the five-member Planning Commission, which meets the second Monday of each month at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.

What people build around Church Hill.
Inside town, a detached garage or a garden shed has to fit the lot and the Town’s placement rules. Outside town limits, Queen Anne’s County rules apply, and the county’s poultry and grain farms, which together sold more than $240 million in 2022, make room for equipment buildings, lean-tos and hay storage. A horse barn or a workshop fits a smaller acreage.
