Building in Millington.

Millington straddles the Kent and Queen Anne’s county line at the head of navigation of the Chester River, with MD 291 and MD 313 serving the town. The John Embert Farm, listed on the National Register in 1980, is among its landmarks. Millington is small, 549 residents in the 2020 Census, but it runs its own planning and zoning, and at 37 minutes and about 21 miles from our Dover office, it’s one of the closer Maryland towns we serve.

Because the county line runs through town, the first job is finding out which town and county offices need to see your project. Then our designers draw it, our crew builds it, and you get an organized, easy-to-read quote up front. Final payment comes after the final inspection, and the work carries our 5-year workmanship warranty.

Permits and rules in Millington.

Millington is incorporated, with its own Planning Commission, which meets the fourth Thursday at 7:00 p.m., a Board of Zoning Appeals and a code enforcement officer. Inside town limits, Millington’s rules, not Kent County’s UDO, set the zoning. With the town website under construction, forms and permits come straight from the Town of Millington, Town Office, 402 Cypress Street, (410) 928-3880, open Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On the state’s building-code contact list, the Millington Town Administrator is the local contact.

The permit sequence and inspection agency aren’t posted online right now, so we confirm both with the Town Office first. Because the town spans two counties, which county’s health, sediment control and stormwater reviewers see a project may depend on your side of the line, and we ask about that too. Statewide, disturbing 5,000 sq ft or more, or 100 cubic yards or more, needs an approved erosion and sediment control plan before work starts.

What people build around Millington.

State maps put sections of Millington inside the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area and a FEMA flood zone, so a lot near the river starts with those maps. Farmland on both sides of the county line suits post-frame equipment sheds, hay storage and lean-tos. On the Kent side, the county ranked third in Maryland for milk sales and second for grain in 2022, so animal shelters and machinery storage fit the local work as well.

Who issues permits in Millington?

Start with the Town of Millington, Town Office, at 402 Cypress Street, (410) 928-3880. The town runs its own planning and zoning, and while its website is under construction, forms and permits come from the office directly. We confirm the full sequence there before design.

Does it matter which county my Millington lot is in?

It can. Millington lies in both Kent and Queen Anne’s counties, and the county agencies that handle health, sediment control and stormwater review may depend on which side of the line you’re on. We find out early which offices will see your project.

How quickly can your crews get to Millington?

Millington is about 21 miles, or 37 minutes, from 575 N Dupont Hwy in Dover. That’s short enough for our crews to be on site quickly for staking, inspections and build days.
