Centreville is the Queen Anne’s County seat and home to the county courthouse, with its statue of Queen Anne. The town was incorporated in 1794, and much of it is listed on the National Register as the Centreville Historic District. The Centreville Armory is listed too. About 4,727 people lived here at the 2020 Census, and MD 213, MD 18, MD 304 and MD 305 serve the town.
Our office at 575 N Dupont Hwy in Dover is about 37 miles from Centreville, roughly 55 minutes by road. Our designers draw the building and put the price in a quote that is easy to follow. We file the permit with the right office, a project manager keeps you posted while the crew builds, and the final payment comes after the final inspection.

Inside town limits, the Town of Centreville runs its own permits rather than Queen Anne’s County. You file the Town’s Permit Application with the Town of Centreville Department of Planning & Zoning at Town Hall, 101 Lawyer’s Row (410-758-1180). Chapter 170 of the Town Code bars erecting, moving, adding to or structurally altering any building without a permit from the Town Zoning Administrator. Middle Department Inspection Agency (MDIA) does the inspections, billed through the Town, and each trade contractor pulls a separate permit.
Under the Town’s fee schedule, effective March 21, 2024, an accessory building of 200 square feet or more costs $0.12 per square foot with a $100 minimum, plus an MDIA inspection fee of $84 or $0.12 per square foot, whichever is greater. A zoning certificate is $50. The application also records a county impact fee and a sediment control permit. Parts of Centreville fall in the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area, which the Town reviews itself, and parts lie in a FEMA flood zone. Outside town limits, the county issues the permit instead.

Where this comes from
Permit details checked October 2026. Rules change, so we confirm the current requirements for your parcel before anything is drawn.
On a town lot, a detached garage, a workshop or a storage building has to fit the lot and the Town’s zoning. Outside the town line, Queen Anne’s County is farm country: it ranked first in Maryland for grain, oilseed and dry bean sales in the 2022 Census of Agriculture. Equipment sheds, machinery storage and hay buildings suit those farms, and a horse barn fits a few acres just as well.

Inside town limits, the Town does. Its Zoning Administrator signs off under Chapter 170, MDIA inspects, and the Town’s fee schedule applies. Outside the limits, Queen Anne’s County Planning & Zoning takes over. We confirm which side of the line your parcel is on, and whether any county sign-off applies, before we file.
A National Register listing does not, by itself, create local design review. The Town’s boards include a Planning Commission and a Board of Zoning Appeals, with no historic district commission listed. Your building still has to meet the Town’s zoning, which we check against your lot early.
