Pole barns and barndominiums in Wyoming, Delaware.
Building in Wyoming.
Wyoming grew up around a Delaware Railroad station built a mile west of Camden. Newcomers from Pennsylvania’s Wyoming Valley began settling there in 1865 and the town took their valley’s name, then incorporated in 1869. Among its landmarks are the Wyoming Railroad Station, the Wyoming Historic District and Fifer Orchards, and the Wyoming Peach Festival comes around each August.
The town is small, with 1,680 residents in 2020 along DE 10 (Caesar Rodney Avenue) and DE 15, and it is a 12-minute drive from our door. We file the permit with Town Hall and keep you posted through each inspection. If you would like to spread out the cost, financing is available through HFS Financial, with home-improvement loans that need no home equity.

Permits and rules in Wyoming.
Wyoming issues its own permits, and Kent County lists it among the towns that require their own. Applications go through the Town of Wyoming Town Hall at 120 W. Camden Wyoming Ave. (302-697-2966), and the town uses First State Inspection Agency, Inc. (302-422-3859) for all required building inspections. A permit is required for detached structures such as garages and pole buildings, for sheds, gazebos and pergolas, and for fences. The town adopted the 2018 IRC through Ordinance #80-26 on January 5, 2026.
Fees follow project cost, materials and labor included: $35 for the first $1,000 plus $4 for each additional $1,000, with inspections added. New construction and commercial permits also add 0.5% of construction value for the Camden-Wyoming Fire Co., 0.25% for the Caesar Rodney School District and 1.0% for the Wyoming Police. Our quote shows the building cost clearly, so you can see what the permit fee is based on.

What people build around Wyoming.
Two accessory buildings per lot and a 20 ft height cap mean a Wyoming project usually has to do more than one job. A detached garage can carry a workshop bay and overhead storage, or one post-frame building can hold a camper, a boat and the mower together. On a lot in the Wyoming Historic District, we can choose siding, trim and roof color to sit well beside an older house.
Wyoming questions.
Have a question about your property? Call 302-399-4420 and we’ll look it up.
How long is a Wyoming garage permit good for?
One year for pole buildings and garages (60 days for sheds), with no extensions. Under Ordinance #50-20, work that starts before the permit is issued gets a stop-work order and a doubled permit fee. We schedule the start of construction with that one-year limit in mind.
How far is Wyoming from your office?
Our Dover office is about 6 miles from Wyoming, a 12-minute drive. That keeps us close for the inspections First State Inspection Agency performs for the town, and for keeping you posted while your building goes up.
Can I add a pole barn if I already have a shed?
Yes, as long as the lot ends up with no more than two accessory buildings, and only one of those may be a doghouse. Under the 2023 Land Use & Development Code, each must sit at least 10 ft from the house, outside the front and side setbacks, 5 ft from the rear line and no taller than 20 ft.
