Building in Hebron.

Hebron’s National Register listings include St. Giles, Western Fields and the Maple Leaf Farm Potato House. The town grew up around a shipping point that the Baltimore, Chesapeake and Atlantic Railroad designated in 1890 as it built west from Salisbury, and by the 1920s it was a farming and manufacturing hub. It incorporated in 1931, and MD 347 serves as its Main Street.

Hebron keeps its own permit process, and the Town Commissioners review each application. The trip from our Dover office runs about 63 miles and about 86 minutes. Our part is the drawings, the setback sketch the Town wants and a clear list of what only an owner can sign; then our crews build it while a project manager keeps you posted.

Permits and rules in Hebron.

Town Hall, 100 N. Main St. (410-742-5555), assigns the permit number and places the application on the Town Commissioners’ agenda. They meet on the 1st or 3rd Wednesday, and the deadline is noon on the Monday before. The homeowner signs the Town’s Set Back Specifications and attaches a drawing with the front, rear and side distances. The form carries approval lines for the Zoning Commission, electrical, the County Fire Marshal, structural design and building inspection, and one copy is marked as the county copy, so we ask Town Hall whether a separate Wicomico County permit or county inspections apply.

No work may start until the permit is approved and paid for, and the permit should be displayed on the property while work goes on. If you bought the property recently, the deed has to be stamped by the town attorney and the transfer recorded at Town Hall before a permit is considered. Under the Town’s zoning table, an accessory building on a residential lot keeps at least 5 feet from the rear line and 3 feet from a side line.

What people build around Hebron.

Hebron’s farm and rail roots point to the two kinds of building that fit here: equipment storage and farm shops on the acreage outside town, and detached garages and workshops on residential lots, which the Town sets at 12,000 square feet or more and 75 feet wide, with a 25-foot front setback. In the commercial district, an accessory building keeps 5 feet from the rear and side lines.

Hebron questions.

Have a question about your property? Call 302-399-4420 and we’ll look it up.

Can you sign the Hebron permit for me?

No. Hebron allows only the homeowner to sign the building permit and the Set Back Specifications. We prepare the drawings and the setback sketch, fill in the rest and show you where to sign, then follow the application to the Commissioners’ meeting.

Is any of Hebron in a flood zone?

Not on FEMA’s map. FEMA lists Hebron, in the National Flood Insurance Program since 2019, with no Special Flood Hazard Area mapped in town, so it is all Zone C/X. Outside town limits, county floodplain rules apply wherever a floodplain is mapped, so we check the parcel either way.

How long is the drive to Hebron from your office?

It is about 63 miles from 575 N Dupont Hwy in Dover, and the mapped drive is about 86 minutes. Gary Sensenig founded the company there in 2012, and it is still a family-run builder.
